The Art of Dipping: Crafting Beautiful Beeswax Taper Candles

Dipped beeswax tapers organic candlesticks

Dipping candles is a time-honored craft that allows you to create elegant and unique taper candles. When crafted from beeswax, these candles not only radiate a warm, natural glow but also carry the sweet scent of honey while purifying the air. In this guide, we'll explore the step-by-step process of dipping beeswax taper candles, providing you with a delightful and creative experience.

Materials Needed:

  1. Beeswax pellets
  2. Wick (cotton or hemp)
  3. Double boiler or a heatproof container
  4. Thermometer
  5. Coldwater container

Step 1: Prepare the Beeswax, by setting up a double boiler. Melt the beeswax in a heatproof container placed in a pot of water. Use a thermometer to monitor the wax temperature, aiming for around 160-170°F (71-77°C). Be cautious not to overheat the wax, as excessive heat can affect the quality.

Step 2: Dip the wick into the melted beeswax, ensuring it's fully submerged. Hold it in the wax for a few seconds to allow the wax to coat the wick. Slowly lift the wick out, letting excess wax drip back into the container.

Step 3: After each dip, briefly cool the candle in the air for a few seconds, allowing the wax to harden slightly. Repeat the dipping process, gradually building layers to achieve the desired thickness.

Step 4: Once your candle reaches the desired thickness, it's time for the final step. Submerge the warm candle into a container of cold water. This not only cools and hardens the wax but also enhances its texture.

Step 5: After the candle is fully cooled and hardened, trim the wick to your preferred length. Your hand-dipped beeswax taper candle is now ready to illuminate any space with its natural beauty.

For candles that twist around each other, dip two thin candles then wrap them around each other while still warm.
